This new Cultural Center in Netanya reclaims a 22,500 sq.m. site originally planned for a sports arena, introducing a compact, vertically layered institution that combines performance, community, and landscape into a singular civic gesture.
Situated adjacent to Kvish Ha’Hof and directly opposite Netanya Stadium, the 10,000 sq.m. building is designed as a round, efficient volume surrounded by an open, park-like setting. The form concentrates functions upward rather than outward — maximizing space for public use and ensuring high visibility from the regional highway. Inside, the center houses a range of performance venues: a 950-seat main auditorium at ground level, a 250-seat black box theater, a 400-seat rooftop venue, and a smaller fringe theater for 50–100 seats. These are supported by a lobby, gallery, office spaces, restaurants, and a fully programmed community center. The architectural concept stacks functions to optimize footprint and clarity. The auditorium’s ceiling becomes the entrance lobby floor; community and office functions rise above; and backstage logistics, loading, and performer areas are efficiently tucked underground. The surrounding landscape includes walking paths, pavilions, and a boardwalk connecting to nearby office buildings, reinforcing the project’s role as both destination and connector. This is not just a building — it’s a new focal point for urban life in Netanya, one that reflects the evolving identity of cultural institutions through density, openness, and accessibility.
